New
Orleans, LA
Overview:
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina
swept through New Orleans striking a devastating blow to the livelihood of
every New Orleans resident. About eighty percent of the city flooded, leaving a
trail of destruction and thousands of people homeless. Census estimates
indicate that New Orleans lost half its population between July 2005 and July
2006. With the residents of the city feeling abandoned by the rest of the
country, there is a feeling of loneliness and depression in the fight to
restore the community from physical, emotional and spiritual devastation. The
primary ministry focus of your ministry in New Orleans is rebuilding lives
instead of rebuilding houses. People who are overwhelmed and struggling with
depression can be found in every racial and economic category. The locals in
the community need help restoring their lives, homes, and hope.
Ministry:
You can help make an
impact for Christ in New Orleans through meaningful relationships with the
locals in the community. Outreaches such prayer walks, sports evangelism,
feeding programs, and door-to-door ministry are potential ways to show God’s
love to this devastated area.
Lodging for leaders and support staff: AIM is
