I set out on a Dirt road
When people go on a mission trip many of them think of what they can do for people or what they can accomplish for God, but few think of what God can and will accomplish through them. Hopefully as we set out on our mission trips that God has called us to we can bow down and the Holy Spirit steps up. So in this fashion we set out one morning being fully prayed up and loaded the vans up, we were off to build a house, well that’s what we thought… As many people on mission trips would think and as I thought also we were off to build a house, an American house that hade at least four walls, a roof, a bathroom and bedrooms. I figured it would be the same house that I have helped build on so many mission trips. But as we were getting closer to the site I realized that the only materials that we had were some 2×4’s and scraps of wood and a roll of roofing trap. Well, I thought there would have to be a lumberyard on the way there, right? And yes there it was, the only thing is that we pasted it by… Well, I thought that maybe someone was meeting us there with more materials. But, as I pulled down this muddy road that had holes in it the size of cars, I realized that no one else was coming… After we navigated our way to were this lady was living I realized my definition of a house and there definition of a house was completely different. We meet a lady that emerged from a… well… what looked like some sticks and pieces of scrap wood tided together with rope. I realized what I was thinking we were going to build, one that would be suitable for me. What I thought of could have house hundreds of people that lived here, and the leftover wood that I would throw away, well they would have used for their houses. And it was this leftover wood that we used to build this lady a house, a house that she could have never imaged or have prayed for. God brought her a house that I would have never imagined would have been a blessing for someone. Isn’t awesome how God uses the small leftover and discarded things and makes them something wonderful and worthy of God.
