Finishing up her schooling in Philadelphia, Melissa heard about AIM through her
home church and drew immediate interest in serving the inner city. After
hearing her experience, God proved to be more than working in the area. She
learned that God’s realm of thinking is so beyond our mind’s boundaries. We
really cannot even imagine how his planning works, but if we allow him to lead
the way, we will be blown away. While this can be confusing, it is not meant to
frustrate but to simply prove God’s size. I became so much more aware of God’s
presence in everything, it was awesome. Prayer is not successful only when our
solutions are met, but when we are sincere and open to God’s greater plan.
of AIM staff had been praying for God’s healing and really sensed that during
their time in Philly, God would heal someone. As time passed, God seemed to be
answering their prayer in ways other than they expected. As they were constantly
reminded that God’s answers to our prayer are not always what we expect, they
did not give up in their prayer for a miraculous healing.
week, for one particular group of students, the church van had been broken into
the night prior to their leaving. With hours of work needed to fix the vehicle,
the students initiated a final worship session. During that session, several
AIM staff as a well as Melissa prayed around a young student who had been
suffering from a severely sprained/broken ankle that had been braced for over a
year. During their prayer, one of the staff declared that the student stand on
her tip-toes. The girl immediately stood on her toes and then fell over
weeping. She had not been able to stand on her feet without pain for over a
year, and immediately she felt no pain in her ankle. The rest of the day, the
young student held tightly to her once bound ankle brace, carrying it as a
healing trophy. It was awesome to see God’s miraculous healing firsthand.
inner city last summer. She became interested in AIM after doing inner city
ministry in NY. She found our website and felt God calling her into urban
ministry. God really pressed the importance of growth in her life over the
summer. Also, the time it takes for growth must be allowed for. While inner
city ministry in NO was continually subject to change, it was important to
learn God’s timing is perfect and takes trust to allow to happen. A really
unique story from her experience was an encounter with a team of mimes. During
the last week, she felt God calling her group down to the waterfront in NO for
worship. Upon arrival at the waterfront, another group of mimes from Philly was
there as well. They were able to collaborate acts with her group and perform to
hundreds of bystanders. God’s timing was perfect in that two missions teams
united and made an astounding impact for Christ’s Kingdom.
