I have always been told that flexibility is the number one
thing that a missionary must be able to do and that is true for almost every
week, however this week we had to be very flexible! Monday and Tuesday were
normal AIM days with a small group here in Matamoros from Minnesota. We were ministering to the people of
Matamoros by doing some construction on the church, Dios es Amor, visiting
families in the area and having a Vacation Bible School in the afternoons.
However, on Wednesday we had a special guest show up, Alex the hurricane. As the rains started on Tuesday and
continued into Wednesday the group decided to stay and try to do as much work
as possible. However, the streets
were soon flooded and we were not able to do our normal ministry. Wednesday morning it was looking like
we were not going to be able to go out anywhere and do ministry but God opened
a door in the storm and we were able to bring the local neighborhood kids to a
VBS at the Gateway, which was fantastic. We were also able to do our ATL on Thursday and serve in a local
Children’s home and host another VBS in our own neighborhood. None of the things that we did on
Wednesday or Thursday were planned at all but God still worked though the
circumstances that He provided us with and we were able to minister to the
people that He ordained us to minister to. Flexibility is key and it is also where God shows us who is
in control!
